Embracing Retreat Nestled on Scargo Lake

We always have such a wonderful time at Doug and Julie's beautiful retreat. We love seeing the sunrise in its colorful glory as the night sky fades. We love waking up and having our breakfast on the deck as the sun filters through the trees and you can hear the kingfisher chattering away along the lake shore in search of a meal. We take a dip in the lake, paddle around (kayak available), or fish right off the dock (catch/release). We're a short walk away from the beach where you can wade in the salt water and see if maybe you can spot a seal or see the small fishes swimming around your feet. The scenic Cape Cod/Chatham Rail Trail is great for a day of biking or walking. Great restaurants and bakeries are within walking distance. Galleries surround the area and the Cape Cod Art Museum is a 4 min walk. On cool nights nothing beats snuggling around a fireplace after star gazing from the dock or the deck. A friendly, beautiful, and comfortable place to relax, restore the soul, and enjoy great adventures where Nature abounds. Serendipity.

My family and I just returned from a glorious week at this home. The house is so beautiful with thoughtful decor throughout (in and out). The house was very clean, well stocked and had everything we needed. The views and the lake were simple breathtaking. Nothing better then starting each day with the lake right outside your window. We spent each day swimming, kayaking, fishing in the crystal clear lake. Best was being able to walk to a near by beach- best of both worlds. So many nearby restaurants and cute shops. This was our first stay at this home and we are already planning our next trip. Highly recommend this home! show more show less

We had a very relaxing stay at this lake front house. This house is less than a five minute drive to three different beautiful Dennis beaches. It was so nice to be able to run down to lake in the morning and swim or kayak and then hit the beach later in the day. The lake is so peaceful and almost every room in the house has a view. We enjoyed our meals and morning coffee on the deck overlooking the water. The house is spacious and clean. Kitchen is well stocked and has all the basics so you don't need buy stuff like olive, spices etc. The owner was great to work with and very responsive. We hope to be back to this unique cape house again! show more show less

Blissfully quiet, serene and beautiful
We had a glorious vacation at your Scargo Lake home. Except for the lovely sounds of the leaves rustling and the birds calling, your house was a silent - almost spiritual - place for me. For a New Yorker living in Manhattan, the silence was absolutely blissful. I love that the only motors on the lake were electric, and therefore also silent.

We had adventures every day. We three rose at dawn to watch the early-morning swimmers and fishermen on the lake as the sun was rising. We went to the Marshside for dinner one evening, and returned at 7:00 in the next morning to see the early morning mist on the marsh. We went to Sesuit Harbor, where we were lucky to be offered a short boat ride to see the magnificent sunset. We went to Chatham and watched fishermen bring in their catch and we photographed the harbor seals. We ate lunch at Hallet's in Barnstable, then went to the Harbor to buy fish for dinner. We went to Corporation and Mayflower and walked the boardwalk in Bass Hole. Of all the places we visited, I think my favorite was Chapin Beach at low tide.

My sister and husband live close by in Yarmouthport, and they too loved the house and the quiet. It was wonderful to spend some time with them on the lake.

Absolutely Wonderful
We would echo the sentiments of the previous reviewers. We had an absolutely wonderful vacation. We spent more money to be on a lake and I was hoping it would be worth it and our hopes were surpassed. My four teenage children and my husband wanted to eat in each night they were so relaxed and comfortable here. The house was supplied with everything we needed. We are an outdoor family and loved being able to walk out the back slider and fish, swim, boat, paddleboard and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Mayflower and Corporation beach are both so close and sunsets are glorious at Mayflower. Coast Guard and Nauset beaches are within a half hour too. The pottery in the house is so unique to the experience. The owners were terrific and we will definitely consider returning! show more show less

Scargo Lake home-away-from-home
We heartedly agree with the very positive comments of the previous reviewers of this Scargo Lake "home-away-from-home"! This vacation "Shangri-La" is very comfortable, being well-furnished, tastefully decorated and well-supplied. Contributing to the vacation-retreat feel is the home's setting on the lake with its large deck and its private pier.

The owner was very friendly and helpful from the get-go, giving recommendations for restaurants, beaches, etc.

If Cape Cod is part of our vacation plans in the future, we would definitely look forward to returning to this Scargo Lake retreat. Additionally, I would not hesitate recommending this home to friends that are interested in vacationing on the Cape. show more show less

Serene retreat perfect for a family
We stayed at this house on Scargo Lake for our very first trip to the Cape. I don't know if it was perfect weather or the house, but it turned out to be the best, most restorative vacation I have ever had. Our family was transformed by the stay. Everything you could possibly want is in the well-furnished house. I brought knives and pots and pans thinking I would find rental quality in the kitchen only to find that the tools provided were better than mine!

I will never forget getting up each morning and toting a cup of coffee to the bench on the private dock, just steps from the back door and watching the lake transform over the course of the day. The owners kept in touch before the stay to make sure everything was perfect and then "left us alone" during the stay so we truly felt the house was ours. We plan to return every year that we can to enjoy the house, the scenery, and the tranquility of Dennis and Scargo Lake. We also saw a musical at the Cape Playhouse that we thoroughly enjoyed and loved daily afternoon trips to Mayflower Beach for our saltwater swims. Dinner at "Fin" just down the street was wonderful as well. show more show less

A wonderful and relaxing holiday!
This is a great house with an excellent location. I very much enjoyed my first Cape Cod holiday with friends. The house is wonderful, spacious, clean, with a beautiful garden, and right on the lake (with lots of water toys). I fell in love with the whimsy of the garden and the pottery in the house. It was fun exploring all the unique features of the house. A true treasure that’s centrally located and close to the beach and lake access. I really enjoyed sitting on the dock at dawn and dusk, people watching during the day, and feeding the ducks. Great vacation and rental. I would recommend to friends and family. show more show less

Embracing Retreat
We happily settled into this most comfortable home. We do not recall ever renting a vacation home so thoroughly equipped. We enjoyed the wonderful woodwork, lovely pottery, interesting artwork and, of course, the lake about 25 feet away. The house is spacious, expansive in details, private and whisper quiet.

The house is very convenient to Corporation Beach (walkable) and all the restaurants near the Cape Playhouse and movie theater.

If the typical Cape rental, almost always with some Walmart or thrift ship furnishings, is Gallo, this home is Grand Cru.

If another Cape vacation is in our future, we would certainly return to this "embracing retreat" and would highly recommend it to others. show more show less

Summer break at Scargo Lake
This rental property is beautiful, clean, and very well equipped . Everything needed to enjoy the clear waters of sandy-bottomed Lake Scargo was close at hand. We enjoyed swimming, kayaking and fishing for bass in the lake. The town beaches were within walking or biking distance, especially Howe St. Beach, which had a terrific sandbar for playing at low tide. The water was clear and refreshing, and we enjoyed building sand castles and playing whiffle ball on the wide open sandbar. The Cape Cod bike trail begins in town, and is mostly flat and easy riding, with beautiful scenery, including cranberry bogs, estuaries, and refreshingly cool wooded trails. We were thrilled to find several delicious ice cream parlors on our way. This property is conveniently located near many shops and restaurants . We would be very happy to enjoy another week in this beautiful home. show more show less
